Legends of the Hidden Temple Season 4 (also known as the Season 1 Reboot) is the only season of the reboot series to Legends of the Hidden Temple and the final season of the franchise overall.

On December 16, 2019, the reboot was announced for the streaming service Quibi and a casting call went out on March 10, 2020. When the service launched on April 6, 2020, the reboot was nowhere to be found. In October 2020, it was reported that Quibi will shut down in December, leaving the Legends of the Hidden Temple reboot presumably cancelled with no new development on the reboot since the casting call went out. [1] Then on May 7, 2021, a new casting call for the show went out to the public,[2] revealing the show had not been cancelled. Four days later, the CW picked up the show.[3] On July 14, it was announced that comedienne Cristela Alonzo has been chosen as the new host of the show.[4]

Filming of the rebooted season commenced in July 2021 and aired on October 10, 2021 until January 23, 2022.[5][6]

Dee Bradley Baker, who voiced Olmec in the original series, the TV movie, Nickelodeon All-Star Challenge and The Loud House crossover, reprises his role in the reboot. [7].

Kirk Fogg, the original host of Legends, would cameo in some episodes, usually during the Temple Runs.

On May 19, 2022, the show was cancelled by The CW after one season. [8]

Trivia

  • This is the only season:
    • That features adult teams.
    • To air on the CW.
    • Produced in HD.
    • To have less than 40 episodes.
    • To not be hosted by Kirk Fogg.
    • To be hosted by comedian Cristela Alonzo.
    • To have hour-long episodes.
    • To only have four teams compete in an episode instead of six.
    • To have the legend be told at the Moat and the Temple Run instead of just the Steps of Knowledge and the Temple Games.
    • To only have two Temple Games.
    • To not use half Pendants of Life.
    • To have teams of the same gender.
    • Filmed outside a building.
    • To not be filmed at Nickelodeon Studios.
    • Where the Orange Iguanas and Silver Snakes do not enter Olmec's Temple.
      • This also makes Season 4 the only season where not all the teams were able to enter the Temple.
    • To not have Triple Seizures.
    • Where Olmec reveals the location of the artifact just before the Temple Run rather than before the Steps of Knowledge.
    • Without any legends based on real historical figures. Each legend in this season is based on figures of myth and folklore.
    • Where a team was able to win the grand prize in all of its Temple Runs. In this case, the Red Jaguars.
  • This is the shortest season in all of Legends, lasting for only 13 episodes.
    • This is also one of the only two seasons with only one Temple Layout. The other being Season 3 with Temple Layout XV.
    • Because of that, this season holds the fewest grand prize victories, with three.
  • This and Season 1 are tied for having the least amount of episodes involving the Tiebreaker, with five each.
    • Coincidentally, they are also the only seasons to premiere their episodes within two different years.
  • Despite the fact that Legends was revamped for adult contestants and aired on The CW, it was still produced by Nickelodeon.
  • This is the second season to premiere its episodes within two different years instead of just one (the first being Season 1).
  • Unlike the original series, every team who makes it to the Temple Run always has two Pendants of Life, even after the tiebreaker.
  • While each season of the original series had all the teams have at least one episode where they were able to enter their artifact's room, in the reboot, only half of the teams were able to do so.
  • In every episode that cameos Kirk Fogg, a contestant was able to grab onto the artifact before time ran out.
  • The Blue Barracudas and Red Jaguars are tied for having grabbed the most artifacts this season, with two each.
  • The Purple Parrots have grabbed the fewest artifacts this season, with one.
  • Nick Borey and Joshua Siniscalco, who competed in both the original series and the CW reboot, were interviewed on the "Splat Attack Podcast" to talk about their time on both shows.[9]
    • Additionally, they gave the following trivia:
      • The producers tried to get the reboot series to be filmed in Mexico. But due to COVID-19/travel restrictions, they had to move the filming to California.
      • The area in which The Ladder of Death is placed was originally set to hold two additional rooms within the temple. But the idea was eventually scrapped.
      • All contestants and crew members had to be vaccinated for COVID-19 before they appear on set (or in the contestants' case: in order to be eligible to compete on the show). They claim that a few contestants got sick during the filming, but the outcome was not affected by this.
      • Host Cristela Alonzo did not know that Nick and Joshua were former contestants till they talked to each other in-between filming.
        • Additionally, when she along with other contestants found out about this. The two were more than happy to talk to them about their time on the original show.
      • During The Steps of Knowledge, a team cannot ring in until Olmec finishes reading the question. Likely to avoid embarrassment amongst the team member who rung in without knowing the choices to the question.
        • As shown in The Hindu Legend of Rama, Nick and Josh along with The Orange Iguanas were shown trying to stomp in as quick as possible for one of the questions. Despite knowing the answer to the question, the step did not light up as Olmec did not finish asking the question.
      • Just like with the original, the winning team who made it to the temple were given a map of the temple so that way they can plan out how can they get to the artifact on time.
        • However, unlike the original show. The contestants were not told where the artifact will be placed till the filming of the temple run.
      • While the two did not interact with Dee Bradley Baker in-person. They did interact with him while he was in character as Olmec.
      • During the filming of a temple run, no music played when the contestants were competing inside the temple. Unlike the original where the temple run music played when the contestants ran through the temple.
      • The filming of an episode took a span of multiple days rather than a single day.
