Steps of Knowledge

One of the most important patriots of the American Revolution was a scientist named Benjamin Franklin. He was Ambassador to France during the Revolution and helped write the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. But, his greatest contribution was the discovery of electricity. Legend has it, that his wife, Deborah, saw her husband flying a kite during a thunderstorm.

"Are you mad?!", she shouted. "You'll catch your death in this rain!"

But Ben just shook his head.

"I've tied a key to the tail of this kite, and it should fly much better now. It's an experiment for a new flying machine."

"Flying, schmying. Get your tail back in this house!"

But just then, lightning hit the kite. She ran to him, terrified, and he gasped.

"Deborah, that was electricity! Just think: Light bulbs! X-Rays! Blow dryers! Electric shavers!"

She put her delirious husband to bed, and the electrified key disappeared.

Temple Games

The Green Monkeys are Margaret and Ronnie. The Blue Barracudas are Peter and Michelle.

One Handed Clock (Olmec Wheels)[]

One-Handed Clock Temple Game

Among Benjamin Franklin's many inventions was the one-handed clock, which has one hand that makes a full rotation every four hours. Olmec hoped Michelle and Margaret's moved faster. When Kirk gave the signal, each player had to recreate the one-handed clock by climbing up onto her Olmec wheel, and adjusting her weight to make it spin. Each player won one full point for each full rotation clockwise. If either player fell off, she had to remount her Olmec wheel and spin it again. The player with the most rotations in 60 seconds won. Michelle won the game after completing twelve rotations over Margaret, who completed eight rotations.

Kite Climb (Climbing Wall)[]

Benjamin Franklin was a man of letters who according to legend, discovered electricity by tying a key to the end of a kite's tail. When Kirk gave the signal, Peter and Ronnie had to push in the correct bricks to create a hand- or foot-hold, and pull themselves up. Once at the top, they had to then grab the key and ride the kite tail back down. The player to land with the kite or the player furthest along in 60 seconds won. Peter made it down with the kite with twelve seconds of spare time, awarding him a half pendant of life.

British Soldiers (Slingshot Bowling)[]

Benjamin Franklin won French aid for America, which helped turn the tide for the Revolutionary War. Here, both teams had to knock down British soldiers. When Kirk gave the signal, one player had to load a cannonball into the slingshot, and launch it at the soldiers on the wall. Once the ball is launched, it was his/her partner's turn to do the same. The team to knock down all four of their British soldiers or the team with the most British soldiers knocked down in 60 seconds won. The Green Monkeys knocked down their fourth soldier with six seconds of spare time, awarding them a full pendant of life and therefore leading to a tie.

Tiebreaker[]

Electrified Key of Benjamin Franklin Tiebreaker

Olmec: "During the Revolutionary War, did Benjamin Franklin serve as Ambassador to Spain, Ireland or France?" Ronnie rang in prematurely and answered "Ambassador", giving the Blue Barracudas a chance to answer. Olmec then said the answers and Michelle correctly answered "France", sending her and Peter to Olmec's Temple in search of the electrified key.

Temple Run

Peter decides to go into the temple first, moving at a good pace. With only one pendant in hand, the Blue Barracudas will need all the luck they can get. Starting off by heading down into The Cave of Sighs, and climbing down through the caverns like butter, Peter was able to enter to The Pit of Despair after unlocking the lower crawl path. Upon entering The Pit, Peter decides to go directly for the electrified key and tries to unlock the door to The Throne Room. But the door of course, was locked, so Peter quickly changes his path and instead headed up into The Observatory. And while he was able to align the stone column without any spikes on the road, Peter did not know that the door to The King's Storeroom had opened after he completed the objective. Because of this, Peter took a detour down into Medusa's Lair, but that's when the first temple guard jumped out and captured Peter. Thus, forcing him to trade in the only pendant he and Michelle have on them. After putting in the snakes into Medusa's hair, Peter at first attempted to go back into The Pit of Despair after noticing that the door was opened and even tried to unlock the door leading to The Throne Room. But eventually he does take notice that the door leading to The King's Storeroom was open, and he heads into their next. But just like a bolt of lightning, the second temple guard jumps out and seizes Peter as soon as he grabbed the first pot from the middle pedestal. Leading him to be taken out of the temple with 1:38 left on the clock.

Michelle went into the temple next, "thinking on her feet" as Kirk described her pace. However, she thought twice about where to start on her part. She almost entered The Crypt by accident (which would have ended up causing a triple seizure if she continued into there), but she quickly realizes her mistake and went into The Ledges. Upon entering The Pit of Despair, Michelle couldn't decide whether to take the path to The Observatory or Medusa's Lair, but she chooses the former option and heads up. Luckily, Michelle made a smart move and knew to simply enter The King's Storeroom via the Observatory. Once there, she was able to find the key within the pot Peter was about to smash before being taken away by the second temple guard, but it was the pedestal on the right that gain her access into The Shrine of the Silver Monkey. Then in The Shrine, Michelle assembled the silver monkey without any issues at all, which then allowed her to access two different rooms. (The Dark Forest and The Mine Shaft). And while Michelle could have saved time and enter The Dark Forest to save time, she did not take notice of it and instead heads down into The Mine Shaft. Upon entering there Michelle had a slight kerfuffle as she didn't know where to head next, but she eventually realized where to go and quickly plows through The Stone Wall and into The Dark Forest, where she finds the key in the tree on the right. Though she had another bit of tough time finding where the key was meant to go, as she tried the inactive door on the right side of The Dark Forest, and even the already opened door to The Shrine of the Silver Monkey. But just like with before, it didn't take long for Michelle to realize where she had to use the key, and she proceeds into The Swamp with 4 seconds remaining. Trying her best to hurry as fast as she could, Michelle was able to unlock the door to The Throne Room, but she simply didn't have enough time to grab the electrified key. And the temple run ends when Michelle was preparing to enter The Throne Room.
