The Ilocano Legend of Lam-Ang (a.k.a. The Amazing Talking Rooster of Lam-Ang) is the third episode of the reboot version and the 123rd episode overall of Legends of the Hidden Temple.

Storyline

This story comes from the Ilocos region of the Philippines. It is the story of a magical boy-man, born while his father is away making war and how that accident of history affects his life and the people in it.

Cristela: Wait. A boy-man?

Olmec: Indeed!

Lam-Ang is so mature at birth, as soon as he is able to walk, his mother lets him leave home with only a magical spear in search of his father.

Cristela: What makes Lam-Ang so heroic?

He goes on two heroic quests, the first for revenge. Lam-Ang has a dream that quickly turns into a nightmare, when he sees the severed head of his father being foisted onto a spike at the hands of evil mountain villagers. What's worse, the dream is true. Lam-Ang races to the village with his magical spear and slays every evil villager except two. He drags them both to the village square, where he assesses their clothing, looking for his father's blood, and kills the one he feels is most responsible for the brutal death. The other is spared, destined to be the sole survivor and attests to Lam-Ang's might.

Lam-Ang: "You shall tell the world what Lam-Ang did here today!"

Moat Crossing

Like Lam-Ang, you will kill the last evil villager and spare the sole survivor. On Cristela's signal, one of you put on that diaper. You are the baby Lam-Ang. Jump into that raft and paddle your teammate to the first platform to await your instructions on how to become the sole survivor. Continue to the second platform, where you will find the last evil villager. Describe what the villager is wearing to your teammate so they can look inside that trunk and put on the opposite clothes, becoming the sole survivor. Once the sole survivor is properly dressed, use your magical spear to slay the last evil villager. Then you both may exit the moat and hit your gong. The first three teams to become the sole survivor, slay the evil villager, and strike their gong continue on their quest. The last team is out.

Steps of Knowledge

His father's death avenged, Lam-Ang returns to his hometown a full-grown hero. Before seeing his mother, he dives into the river Amburayan to wash off the war. But he is so filthy, bloody, and stinky, every fish in the river dies. Despite the stench, his reputation attracts available young women who jump into the river to help him bathe, but Lam-Ang has his heart set on someone he has only heard of, the unspeakably beautiful Ines Kannoyan, and he tells his mother.

Lam-Ang's mother: "Ha! She has many suitors, much richer and far more handsome than you, Lam-Ang. Why would she choose you?"

Lam-Ang: "Thanks for the pep talk, Mom."

Undeterred, Lam-Ang sets out on his second quest for love. He brings along two magical pets, his talking rooster, whose crow is so loud… it destroys things, and his dog… whose bark can restore them. Along the road, Lam-Ang passes hordes of dejected suitors who laugh at him and his chances with Ines, one so insulting that Lam-Ang uses his magical spear to fling him over a mountain. Again, he persists, arriving at the home of Ines to find so many suitors, he can't even get to the front door. He turns to his magic rooster.

Lam-Ang: "Okay, rooster. Let's do this."

The rooster's crow flattens a nearby building. Ines and her mother Unnayan run to the window just in time to see Lam-Ang order his dog to bark. An earthquake jolts the building back into place. Impressed by his magic, Ines' mother orders her to adorn herself and let Lam-Ang in. He calls on the rooster.

Lam-Ang: "Rooster, will you bear witness to my greatness?"

Rooster: "I've been your wingman since you were a baby. Ahem! Let me tell you about my good friend Lam-Ang."

Lam-Ang's Journey (Head-to-Head)[]

Lam-Ang uses all of his tricks in pursuit of Ines Kannoyan, including his magical spear, talking rooster, and barking dog.

In this game, you are the determined Lam-Ang, using all of your tricks. When Cristela gives the signal, grab your magic spears and like Lam-Ang, fling that loser suitor over the mountain. Climb the mountain and crawl through the dirt, gathering talking roosters on your way to Ines' home. Then crowing like your talking rooster, use those slinging devices to launch your pullets at that building and bring it to the ground. Once the building is destroyed, become the barking dog and put it back together. Then you may run over and hit your gong. The team that gets the suitor over the mountain, destroys the building, and puts it back together the fastest wins.

Shell Code (Time Trial)[]

Lam-Ang agrees to pay a dowry equal to twice the Kannoyans' worth, winning Ines' hand in marriage. They are wed without delay. On their way to the honeymoon, Lam-Ang stops by the river again, this time to dig for oysters when suddenly he is swallowed by a massive fish, killing him instantly. Luckily, he was able to use oyster shells to leave a clue for Ines about what happened.

In this game, you are Lam-Ang, leaving that clue. When Cristela gives the signal, dig through that mud, find 13 oysters, and throw them through the Mayan hoop, all while yelling things you might say while digging for oysters. That last part is just for my entertainment. Wash off the shells to reveal the colored symbol that tells you where to place them on that grid, creating Lam-Ang's clue. Complete the clue and hit your gong to stop the clock. The team that assembles the clue the fastest wins!

Tiebreaker[]

Olmec: "What do the single women in the village help Lam-Ang do?" Cadie rings in and correctly answers help him bathe, sending her and Mallory to Olmec's Temple in search of the talking rooster.

The End of the Story

Word of her husband's demise devastates Ines. She discovers the clue to the massive fish and instructs the barking dog and talking rooster to find that fish and gather Lam-Ang's bones. The pets perform an incantation of barks and crows over the bones. Lam-Ang is miraculously brought back to life, his body and soul restored. And Lam-Ang, Ines, the talking rooster, and the barking dog live a long and happy life together.

Temple Run

Cadie entered the Temple and took the bottom door in the Crystal Cenote to the Crypt of the Heartless. After spending some time trying to find the heart, she unlocked the door, only to be confronted by a Temple Guard. She gave up her pendant and entered the Pit of Despair where she climbed up to the Spider's Lair and into the Room of the Lost Treasure. She removed all the rods and had a bit of trouble looking for the jade stone, but managed to complete the objective. In the Shrine of the Silver Monkey, she completed the monkey quickly and entered the Room of the Beloved. She grabbed the Rooster and escaped the Temple for a successful solo run victory.
