The Irish Legend of Ću Chulainn (a.k.a. The Deadly Spear of Ću Chulainn) is the ninth episode of the reboot version and the 129th episode overall of Legends of the Hidden Temple.

Storyline

This Irish legend is over 2,000 years old. Sétanta is a boy of superhuman strength, and supreme confidence. While playing hurling, an ancient Irish ball game, he catches the attention of the king, who invites the star athlete to a party at Castle Culann. The session is raging. As Sétanta approaches the castle, a massive wolfhound lets out an ear-piercing howl. The partiers come running in time to see Sétanta swing his hurling stick and smash a sliotar down the demon dog's throat, killing it. Horrified at the thought of taking out Culann's security, Sétanta goes to the Chieftain.

"Allow me to guard your land and family until another hound can be raised as ferocious."

From that day on, Sétanta is known as Ću Chulainn, the Hound of Culann.

Cristela: You gonna tell us where the deadly spear comes into this?

Olmec: Patience, Cristela.

Moat Crossing

Like Ću Chulainn, you must use your hurling prowess to take down Culann's hound. When Cristela gives the signal, one of you swim to the first platform to become the hound, howling at Sétanta, who must use that hurling stick to smash a sliotar down your throat. Catch one sliotar and swap roles. Retreating backwards to the second platform, catch a second sliotar, then swap again. Retreating to the castle on the other side of the moat for the final catch. When you have lodged three sliotars in the dog's throat, the hound is dead and you may hit your gong. The first three teams to hit their gong continue on their quest. The last team is out.

Steps of Knowledge

With every year, Ću Chulainn grows more handsome and fierce. His reputation for carousing also grows, leading to the prophecy that he will surely be famous, but die young. He sows his wild oats until smitten by Emer, the beautiful daughter of the King of Luska. But the king devices a plan to get rid of him.

"If you want to see Emer, go to the Isle of Skye, and be trained by the warrior woman, Scáthach, and return."

The king knows the journey is likely to kill him. Ću Chulainn ventures through the perilous glen where a magic wheel and an apple help him survive the treacherous terrain. When he finally arrives, Scáthach is so impressed he survived the journey, she agrees to train him. He spars for a fortnight with another soldier named Ferdiad, the only one to match his talent and strength. Ću Chulainn becomes such a fierce fighter, that Sćathach rewards him with a deadly spear, the Gáe Bulg, and he and Ferdiad are forever blood brothers. Ću Chulainn returns to Luska and confronts the king.

"I've come to take your daughter."

But the king stubbornly refuses him again. So Ću Chulainn pulls out the Gáe Bulg, slays 24 of the king's best men, and liberates Emer. The two lovers ransack the castle and elope with most of her father's wealth. After a few years of wedded bliss and ever the warrior, Ću Chulainn is called into action.

Ću Chulainn vs. Ferdiad (Time Trial)[]

Ću Chulainn is called to defend the nearby province of Ulster from Medb, the Queen of Connacht, who sent her entire army to Ulster to steal their prized bull… NoBull. The men of Ulster can't defend the bull because they had been cursed with feebleness by a phantom goddess named Morrigan. Ću Chulainn single-handedly slays dozens of Medb's soldiers, waiting for the curse to wear off. She wants to wear Ću Chulainn down. He wants to stall while the men of Ulster recover. Ću Chulainn kills every one of Medb's soldiers until she sends in, you guessed it, his best friend and blood brother, Ferdiad. The reluctant combatants fight fiercely, but at night they kiss and embrace before resting. The fight goes on for three days until Ferdiad is dead.

In this game, you are Ću Chulainn, spending three days battling your best friend. On Cristela's signal, lock arms with your teammate, becoming Ću Chulainn, and make your way across the path to Ferdiad. One of you shout a war cry, and use your sword to knock him down. The other may use your shield to protect yourself from your opponents, who use that slinging device, to knock you off your path. Move to the second path, then knock down Ferdiad again for day two. Go down the third path, and finally slay your friend. Then you may run and hit your gong to stop the clock. The team that slays Ferdiad the fastest wins.

Morrigan's Revenge (Head-to-Head)[]

Ću Chulainn's bravery is so legendary, that the phantom goddess, Morrigan woos him.

"If I sleep with you, my strength will surely be vanquished like the men of Ulster."

Rejected, Morrigan is supernaturally pissed off and sets out to kill Ću Chulainn three times, coming at him in animal form. First she comes as a black eel and tries to drown him, but he breaks her ribs. Then she attacks him as a gray wolf. But he knocks out her eye. Finally, she stampedes him as a white-eared heifer, but he dodges her and breaks her legs. Exhausted, he takes a well-deserved nap before returning to battle.

Like Ću Chulainn, you must defeat Morrigan in the form of three animals, collecting them as your trophy. On Cristela's signal, wrestle that black eel out of the moat, read the message from Morrigan and take the eel with you to the gray wolf. Attack the wolf by throwing daggers through the Mayan hoop, knocking out its eye. Read Morrigan's message and take the eye and the eel to the white-eared heifer. Crawl under the heifer, breaking off its fore legs, and read Morrigan's final words. Balance the eel, wolf's eye, and cow's leg on that stand to make your trophy. Then one of you lie down on that bed to take a well-deserved nap while your teammate hits the gong. The first team to hit their gong wins.

The End of the Story

Ću Chulainn heads back to battle, stopping to eat by the road side with three women. They are actually Morrigan in disguise. She has poisoned him! The weakened Ću Chulainn goes on to defeat hundreds more, until he is so exhausted, an enemy spear finds its way into his chest. Meanwhile, the men of Ulster return to defend the province and save the bull. With his dying breath, Ću Chulainn takes down one last soldier and at the age of 27, he fulfills the prophecy. He dies young and very famous. As today, we still recall the name Ću Chulainn, the hound of Culann.

Temple Run

Justin entered the Temple first and tried the middle door in the Crystal Cenote to the Spider's Lair, only to find it locked. He found an open door to the Crypt of the Heartless and found the heart in the second corpse. He was confronted by a Temple Guard in the Pit of Despair and wasted a bit of time trying to pass each other. He tried doors to the Dark Forest and Queen's Armory only to find both locked. He entered the Spider's Lair and entered the Room of the Beloved, only to be taken out by a second Temple Guard.

Josh was a little slower than Justin and when he reached the Room of the Beloved, he had trouble trying to find the skull. He solved the maze and unlocked the Shrine of the Silver Monkey where he was greeted by Kirk Fogg. Josh finished the statue, completed the Steamy Hollows combination and entered the Queen's Armory where he gave his pendant to the last Temple Guard. He dressed the Queen to unlock the Room of the Lost Treasure and grabbed the Spear to win $10,000, but time expired as he was entering the Spider's Lair.
