Steps of Knowledge

The most entertaining storyteller of all time was a Persian girl named Scheherazade. Legend has it that every evening, grumpy King Shahrayar would marry a new bride, and every morning have her done away with.

One day, the vizier in charge of wife searchers said: "Your brutal Highness, we are clean out of brides. Every single girl has left town."

"Find one or you're dead meat!" said the King.

The Vizier went home and prepared to meet his fate.

His daughter, Scheherazade, said: "Father, I'll go. I'll teach that King some manners, too."

She and the King married that very night, and after dinner, Scheherazade told him a story about an Arabian adventurer. The King sat spellbound until dawn.

"I can't do away with you yet. I need to know what happens."

Every night, Scheherazade would spin her incredible tales, and every morning the King would spare her life. Finally, the King fell in love. According to legend, he gave her a priceless ivory elephant and let her redecorate the palace.

Temple Games

The Blue Barracudas are Monica, who wanted to be a pediatrician and babysits, and Brad, who is on a track team. The Red Jaguars are Brie, who is interested in U.S. Space Camp and wanted to be an astronaut, and and Cameron, who plays baseball.

One Thousand and One Nights (Olmec Wheels)[]

Scheherazade told King Shahrayar a new installment of her story every night for one thousand and one nights. Brad and Cameron's task was to spin as many tales as possible in one minute. When Kirk gave the signal, each player had to climb up onto his wheel, and adjust his weight to make it spin. For each full rotation, a story is told. If either player fell off, the wheel would stop spinning, and he had to get back on the wheel again. The player who told the most stories in 60 seconds won. Brad made it to his ninth story at the last second, awarding him a half pendant of life. Cameron was only able to tell five stories.

Decorate the Palace with Harem Beads (Bungee Ceiling)[]

According to legend, King Shahrayar fell in love with Scheherazade and let her decorate the palace. When Kirk gave the signal, Brie and Monica each had to grab a strand of harem beads, jump up, and hang them on the palace ceiling. Once either player placed her strand of beads on the ceiling, she had jump back down and grab the next strand. The player who hung the most beads in 60 seconds won. Monica placed five strands of harem beads on her ceiling, awarding her a half pendant of life. Brie was only able to place four.

Final Touch (Ring Tower)[]

Here, both teams have a chance to finish decorating Scheherazade's palace. When Kirk gave the signal, both players on each team had to grab their dome and begin climbing their minaret. Once at the top, they had to place the dome on all the way. The team to place the dome on top and remove their hands won. The Blue Barracudas placed their dome on at the end of the game just before the Red Jaguars could, sending the Blue Barracudas to Olmec's Temple with two full pendants.

Temple Run

Monica headed into the Temple first, moving at a moderate pace. However, she started her run in an interesting way. After passing through the temple gate, she had to stop for a second to decide what room she would enter first. Eventually, she decided to enter The Ledges to enter The Rock Quarry. But just when Monica was trying to open the lower crawl tube, the first Temple Guard jumped out from the lower cavern and forcibly grabbed her, which led Monica to scream. After giving up her pendant, she discovers that the lower crawl tube was not opening, so she headed up to try the upper crawl tube, but that door was locked as well. Now realizing she hit a dead end, Monica had to climb up The Crypt if she wanted to go further into the temple. In there, she was able to unlock the door to The Troubled Bridge after pulling on the second skeleton's book. Now crossing across the bridge, Monica then heads up into The Observatory where she at first walked around the room, assuming that one of the doors was already opened. But after seeing nothing was opened, she got to work on aligning the column. And while Monica didn't have to much trouble aligning the column, it still did take her sometime on completing the objective. Once she did, Monica proceeds into The King's Storeroom and grabs one of the pots to smash it. But before she could make a dent out of it, the second temple guard grabs her, leading her to scream again. And thus, removing her from the temple with 1:41 left on the clock.

Brad raced into the temple next with 1:40 left. Despite moving at a slightly faster pace than that of his partner, he made a critical mistake by entering The Ledges, (which he did not need to enter), and even tried to open up the upper crawl tube. (Despite the fact Monica already tried to before). Eventually, Brad makes it up into The Crypt and continues along the same path as Monica did prior to her removal. Upon entering The King's Storeroom, Brad was able to find the key within the pot that Monica was going to smash, but it was the third pedestal that Brad had to try that allowed him to access The Shrine of the Silver Monkey. In The Shrine, he managed to put the monkey together in a little less than twenty seconds. And upon completing the statue, Brad was given the choice to head into The Lightning Room, The Mine Shaft, or The Dark Forest. But because he thought on his feet (not a completely bad thing though), Brad did not take notice of the opened doors to the lower levels (which could have saved him significant time) and instead headed into The Lightning Room. In there, Brad immediately hopped into the elevator and slowly rode down into The Mine Shaft, then sprinted through The Stone Wall once he arrived, and into The Dark Forest. Since he ran so fast, Brad immediately took notice of the tree on the right was inhabited by the spirit of the final Temple Guard and quickly takes off his pendant and gives it up before continuing.
Ivory Elephant of Scheherazade Dark Forest Temple Spirit

Brad prepared to give the Temple Spirit a pendant before he got captured.

With 10 seconds left, Brad tries to search through the same tree for the key that will take him into The Swamp. And while Brad was able to find the key, time unfortunately ran out just as he unlocked the door to The Swamp.

These players kept up a good pace and ended only two rooms away from the artifact, but if Brad had noticed that the vertical passage connecting The Shrine and The Dark Forest had opened, or not had gone through The Ledges, it could have saved enough time that he could have either grabbed or had a better chance on reaching the Ivory Elephant on time.
