The Japanese Legend of Susano'o (a.k.a. The Broken Sword of Heaven of Susano'o) is the eighth episode of the reboot version and the 128th episode overall of Legends of the Hidden Temple. StorylineThis traditional Shinto story is over 1,300 years old. Susano'o, the impetuous young god of sea and storms doesn't really want to be a god, so he acts out. And is banished from Heaven by his older sister for his bad attitude. On his way off the cloud, he grabbed supplies to survive on Earth, including five bags of grains and his magical Sword of Heaven. Cristela: Is this where the sword breaks? Olmec: Patience, Cristela. The sword will break soon enough. On Earth, Susnao'o realizes raw grains do not suffice and grows hungry. He spots chopsticks floating down the river and goes upstream in search of food. What he finds changes his life forever. Moat CrossingYou are Susano'o being cast out of Heaven. At your feet are eight bags of different grains. You need five of them for your journey, but the list is on that raft in the moat. On Cristela's signal, one of you head out to the raft and swim it back towards your teammate. Open the sack and call for a grain. Your teammate must throw that grain into your bag. Collect all five grains. Then both of you swim to those chopsticks floating in the moat. Use them to repair that broken raft, climb aboard it, and paddle it to shore. Throw the chopsticks ashore and place at least one piece of each of the five grains onto that plate, proving your worth. Then you may hit your gong. The first three teams to hit their gong continue on their quest. The last team is out.
Steps of KnowledgeSusano'o travels upstream and comes upon an old couple and their beautiful daughter weeping. "We had eight beautiful daughters. The giant, eight-headed dragon, Yamata no Orochi, ate one. He returns every year to eat one more. Kushinadahime is our last." "What does this dragon look like?" "Eight heads and eight tails on a body that spans eight mountains and eight valleys with an underbelly that oozes pus and blood." "I will kill that dragon if I can have your daughter's hand in marriage." And he sets out to slay Orochi. In a large field he builds a fence with eight gates. Using his grains, he makes fortified sake, places a vat of it behind each gate and waits. Soon enough, the thirsty dragon appears, making a beeline for Susano'o. Suddenly, all eight heads stop mid-air and take a big whiff. Each massive head, seeks its own vat and drinks greedily until the dragon passes out, snoring so loudly, it awakens the entire valley. Susano'o approaches the drunk dragon. In a fury, he severs all eight heads. The dragon heads grow back. So he starts on the tails. Suddenly, he hits something so hard that his unbreakable sword of Heaven snaps in two creating a broken sword now residing in my temple. But what broke it? An even stronger sword. The legendary Shinto relic called the Grass Cutting sword. He pulls it from the blood and pus and finishes the job. With the dragon dead and a new sword at his side, Susano'o turns his attention to his future bride.
Temple GamesSusano'o vs. Orochi (Time Trial)[]Susano'o weakened Orochi by getting it drunk on fortified sake. In this game, you are Susano'o, making the sake. When Cristela gives the signal, one teammate must memorize one of five ingredients listed on the sake mat, climb the mountain and shout that ingredient to your partner, who must grab the ingredient from the pantry and launch it to you, using that slinging device. Catch the ingredient, slide down the mountain and throw it in the vat. Repeat until you have all five ingredients in the vat. When you are done, grab those two sake cups and raise a toast by dumping them on each other. Then you may run over and hit your gong to stop the clock. The team that makes the sake fastest wins. Kanpai! Susano'o's Sword (Head-to-Head)[]Among the detritus of Orochi's gaping wounds. Susano'o finds the long sword that becomes the legendary Shinto relic, the Grass Cutting sword. In this game, you are Susano'o cutting off dragon tails and retrieving that legendary sword. When Cristela gives the signal, one of you grab the old trusty sword of Heaven, climb atop the dragon and pass it to your teammate, who must climb down and slash off a tail without touching the dragon with your hands. Then meet atop the dragon's body and pass the sword back. Repeat the action until you have cut off all four tails, then reach inside the last tail to find the Grass Cutting sword. Take it back over the dragon and throw it through the Mayan hoop to sanctify it. Then you may run over and hit your gong. The first team to hit their gong wins. Tiebreaker[]Olmec: "Yamato no Orochi was described as having an enormous body that spans eight what?" Augie rings in and correctly answers eight mountians and eight valleys, sending him and Myke to Olmec's Temple in search of the broken sword of Heaven.
The End of the StoryAfter defeating Orochi, Susano'o marries Kushinadahime. He takes his new Grass Cutting sword to Heaven and offers it to his sister, Amaterasu, as a sort of peace offering before returning to Earth and living happily ever after. Temple RunAugie started first and tried both doors to the Spider's Lair and the Crypt of the Heartless from the Crystal Cenote, only to find them locked. He opened the third door and slowly entered the Royal Rage Room and smashed all the pots at once, finding the jade stones easily. He entered the Room of the Beloved where he was confronted by a Temple Guard who took his pendant. After getting the skull to the body, he was a bit confused as to where to go until he found the gate to the Spider's Lair. He continued to move slowly through the Spider's Lair and the Pit of Despair before being taken out by a Temple Guard in the Dark Forest. Myke was a little faster than Augie and managed to get to where he left off. He dressed the queen in the Queen's Armory and entered the Steamy Hollows where he was one room away from the sword. Unfortunately, time ran out just as he was beginning the combination.
