The Jeweled Necklace of Montezuma is the 63rd episode of Legends of the Hidden Temple. It was the 78th episode to air. Moat CrossingIn this moat crossing, teammates cross the water simultaneously by swinging on multiple "ancient Babylonian wheels."
Steps of KnowledgeThe most greedy and ruthless man in all of Mexico was the Spanish Conqueror Hernán Cortés. In the early 1500's, he landed on the coast of Mexico and was sent a present by the Aztec Emperor, Montezuma. Cortés had never heard of Montezuma, nor of the Aztec Indians, but he was amazed at the great pile of gold objects Montezuma sent. "These Indians must be rich," he thought and he headed toward their capital to get more gold. He was even more amazed at the enormous island city with its pyramids and temples. Suddenly, the Emperor appeared, dressed in golden cloth under a gold and feather canopy. "Splendid frock, and a lovely jeweled necklace." "Oh, this," said Montezuma. "It's nothing. I have thousands more where that came from." Cortés' eyes went (Cash register sound). He captured Montezuma and held him hostage for a ton of gold. Finally, the people revolted and drove Cortés and his men from the city. Later, they returned and destroyed the city, but the jeweled necklace was lost.
Temple GamesThe Blue Barracudas are Amie, who plays softball, and Cassian, who does track. The Red Jaguars are Kelly, who does gymnastics, and Kevin, who wanted to be a marine. Olmec Calendars (Spinning Platforms)[]The Aztec Calendar was a round disc decorated with the faces of gods and pictures called glyphs. Here, there are two ancient Olmec calendars. When Kirk gave the signal, Kelly and Amie had to climb onto the calendar and adjust their weight to make it spin. If either player falls off, the spotters will stop the calendar. If she goes counterclockwise (which is of course, cheating), rotations will be taken away. The player with the most rotations in 60 seconds won. They both tied with eight rotations. Gold to Cortés (Zip-line)[]When Cortés arrived on the coast of Mexico, Montezuma sent his ambassador burying golden gifts. Here, there are two piles of golden objects which need to be delivered to Cortés. When Kirk gave the signal, Kevin and Cassian had to pick up a piece of gold, place it in their bags, grab the handle of them, and swoop down to the opposite platform. There, they will deposit their pieces of gold in their bucket for Cortés, grab another handle, slide back, and start again. The player that delivers the most gold into his bucket or the player that is further along in 60 seconds won. Cassian had problems holding on to the handle bar for most of the game and was only able to deposit one piece, allowing Kevin to win ease after depositing three pieces of gold. Stone Pyramid (Giant Steps)[]When Cortés arrived in Montezuma's capital, Tenochtitlan, he was amazed at stone pyramids made of stone. In this game, both teams had to put the last stone of the pyramid in place. When Kirk gave the signal, one member of each team had to boost the other up to the first step and hand them the stone. Then, they will pull themselves up and start on the next level. The first team to reach the top of the steps and place their stone on the top step won. The Red Jaguars made it to the top, sending them to Olmec's Temple with two full pendants.
Temple RunKevin went into the temple first, moving at a moderate but somewhat slow pace. He starts off by heading up the stairs into The Crypt and was caught by the first Temple Guard a few seconds after pulling on the first book from the skeleton. After giving up his pendant, Kevin continues with the objective and pulls a second book, which then unlocks the door that will take him into The Ledges. Deciding not to try and pull the third book, Kevin then heads into The Ledges and crawls down through the lower level to unlock the lower crawl tube to advance into The Rock Quarry. Once in the quarry, Kevin carefully places the rocks into the bucket one at a time to lift the stone slab. Once he was done, Kevin then heads into The Laser Light Room where he started to slow down as he pulled off the blocks at a snail's pace at first until Kirk told him to move quicker. Eventually, Kevin found the white light within the fifth block he pulled, and he decides to head up into Medusa's Lair next. But just as he was putting in one of the snakes into Medusa's head, the second Temple Guard emerged from behind with 1:48 remaining and pulled him away from Medusa's head and therefore the temple. Kelly went into the temple next, moving at a bit of a faster pace than that of Kevin. At the start of her run, Kelly made a very smart move to head directly into The Ledges instead of heading up into The Crypt in order to save time. Following Kevin's path to The Laser Light Room, Kelly made another smart decision to continue on the bottom floor and head into The Swamp, instead of heading up into Medusa's Lair. Jumping into the murky swamp, Kelly rushes across and unlocks the door on the right to enter The Dark Forest. In there, Kelly tried to find the key within the trees, but she was caught by a Temple Spirit when she placed her hand in the tree by The Stone Wall. After giving up her pendant, Kelly (a little frazzle over the encounter) decides not to continue searching for the key and instead plows through The Stone Wall and into The Mine Shaft. In there, Kelly made another smart move by using the ladder to enter The Shrine of the Silver Monkey instead of using the elevator to head into The Lightning Room. Now entering The Shrine with 46 seconds left, Kelly is now a room away from the jeweled necklace. With the only thing standing left is to assemble the monkey statue on time. Kelly gets to work by grabbing the base and the middle piece and brought them to the Pedestal. However, as Kelly was placing the Base, the middle piece slipped from her grasp and fell below! After placing the base, Kelly went to grab the Head of the Monkey when the middle piece was thrown back to her. (According to Kirk, it was a temple spirit who helped her out, but it was likely a producer or cameramen who did so. (Though Kirk said in an interview he did it)). Now with all three pieces, Kelly continues to assemble the monkey together. But unfortunately, she had a hard time trying to put in the middle piece on, as she continuously tried to place the middle piece onto the base while it was upside down. And sadly, time soon expired just as Kelly managed to put in the middle piece on the base of the statue.
