The Maya Legend of the Hero Twins (a.k.a. The Lucky Losing Pok-ta-Pok Ball of the Hero Twins) is the first episode of the reboot version and the 121st episode overall of Legends of the Hidden Temple. StorylineThis story comes from the sacred book of the Maya called the Popol Vuh. The Hero Twins are conceived when their goddess mother Xquic stops to admire a fruit tree growing near a sport court used for the Maya ball game called Pok-ta-Pok. The fruit tree is inhabited by the reincarnated spirit of Hunahpu, a heroic warrior who spits magical black seeds into Xquic's hands, and voilà, she's pregnant with twins. She names the twins Hunahpu after their father and Xbalanqué. They grow up hearing stories of their father's heroic efforts, discovering that he was murdered by two evil lords of the Underworld named One Death and Seven Death. So they set out on an epic quest to avenge their father's murder, and they took their lucky ball with them everywhere they went. Moat CrossingBefore the heroes avenge their father's murder, they get some practice on a conceited bird named Seven Macaw. You are the Twins taking down the bad bird. On Cristela's signal, push your raft into the moat, then pull a stone out of that bag and use those slinging devices to knock the birdbrain into the water. Grab the drowning demon and swim him to the other side of the moat, where you must assemble the clue off his back to identify the only potion guaranteed to kill him once and for all. Find the two bottles that, when mixed, create the right venom, then drag the foul fowl out of the moat to finish him off. The first three teams to slay Seven Macaw and strike their gong continue on their quest. The last team is out.
Steps of KnowledgeAfter defeating Seven Macaw, the twins were invited to a game of Pok-ta-Pok against the lords of the Underworld. Unaware the boys are the sons of Hunahpu and out for revenge, the lords immediately put them to the tests that led to their father's death. They passed the first two. However, the third test is not so easy. "Take these lit cigars into the House of Darkness and keep them lit all night long." Maya stogies can't stay lit all night, so the twins collect fireflies, put them on the ends of the cigars, and fool the lords. "Cool tests, Lords. Thanks. We're outta here." "Not so fast. To the House of Bats." The twins hide from the blood-sucking bats by shrinking themselves down and hiding in their blowguns. So the lords send them to the Cold House, where they use fire to block the freezing cold. "Man, these dudes aren't giving up till we're dead!" They devise a plan to compete in Pok-ta-Pok, knowing if they lose, they will be put to death. "Hey, Hunahpu, grab our lucky ball, and let's die!" The twins lose the game, and the lords grind them in their ball into a fine powder, pouring them into the river. When the powder is out of sight, it magically reconstitutes into the Hero Twins and their Pok-ta-Pok ball, which is now their Lucky Losing Ball.
Temple GamesHero Twins' Tests (Head-To-Head)[]Before being reincarnated, Hunahpu and Xbalanqué faced many tests at the hands of the lords of the Underworld. In this game, you are the Hero Twins facing the same tests. When Cristela gives the signal, go to the House of Darkness and use your blowguns to collect five fireflies without touching the flies with your hands. Then proceed to the House of Bats. Use those planks to build a bridge that will get you out of the house, then shrink yourselves into those blowguns and roll them across the bridge. Climb over and under the obstacles to arrive at the House of Cold, where you must both get into the ice bath and search for wood to build a fire to keep you warm. The first team to pass these three tests and hit their gong wins. Magic Act (Time Trial)[]After the Hero Twins are reconstituted, they acquire the ability to reincarnate living things. They go on tour disguised as magicians like Mayan David Blaines, cutting living things into pieces, then bringing them back to life. Their gruesome act gets the attention of One Death and Seven Death, who once again are unaware they are Hunahpu and Xbalanqué. The lords demand a private performance of the dirty deed. "Do one where you cut us up. Then you can put us back together." The brothers are happy to oblige. In this game, you are the Hero Twins, bringing that performance to life. But first, get into disguise so the lords don't recognize you. When Cristela gives the signal, one of you open that chest and put on a piece of your magician's costume. Describe it to your partner, who must find the matching item and put it on. Once you are properly disguised, it's showtime. Run over to the stage and throw your knives at one of the lords until there are nine body parts on the ground. Indulge the fevered crowd by throwing all nine body parts through that Mayan hoop, then you may hit your gong and stop the clock. The team that completes the magic act of the Hero Twins fastest wins. Tiebreaker[]Olmec: "Who previously failed the first three tests the Hero Twins did?" Travis rings in and correctly answers their father, sending him and Tom to Olmec's Temple in search of the Pok-ta-Pok ball.
The End of the StoryThe Hero Twins' mission is to avenge their father's murder by ridding the world of One Death and Seven Death. With the evil lords slashed into tiny pieces and scattered on the ground, the boys refuse to use their magic to put them back together, leaving them to die a miserable death. Mission accomplished, but the Hero Twins have one last magic act to perform. On their way home, they stop to visit the Magic Fruit Tree, where this story began. In one final gesture, with peace in their hearts, they bring their father, Hunahpu, back to life. Temple RunTravis entered the Temple first and took the bottom door in the Crystal Cenote to the Crypt of the Heartless where a Temple Guard took his pendant. After finding the heart, he entered the Pit of Despair, finding only the door to the Spider's Lair unlocked. He moved quickly through the Spider's Lair and completed the objective of the Room of the Beloved with little trouble. He entered the Shrine of the Silver Monkey and managed to put the base of the statue on before being captured by another Temple Guard with 2:29 remaining. Tom entered next and made it to the shrine fairly quickly. After completing the statue, he entered the Room of the Lost Treasure. He removed all the rods, but had a difficult time trying to find the jade stone. After searching through all the refuse, he finally found the jade stone and entered the Queen's Armory where the third Temple Guard took his pendant. But just as Tom was finishing dressing the Queen, time ran out.
