The Sumarian Legend of Gilgamesh (a.k.a. Gilgamesh and the Lycium of Immortality) is the twelfth episode of the reboot version and the 132nd episode overall of Legends of the Hidden Temple. StorylineThis story is the oldest known literature in existence: over 3,000 years old. Cristela: Older than you? Olmec: Believe it. Gilgamesh is the virile king of Uruk in ancient Mesopotamia. He has built Uruk into a magnificent city. But his subjects fear him… unrest grows as he takes full advantage of the king's right to sleep with any bride on her wedding night. Cristela: Sounds a little like some presidents we've had. Olmec: Right? The people pray for relief, so the gods create a hairy man beast equal in stature and strength, named Enkidu who grows up in the wild. Gilgamesh hears of Enkidu and dispatches a harlot named Joy to find the man beast and domesticate him. She spent six nights seducing him, plying him with fine wine before a more civilized Endiku enters Uruk to confront Gilgamesh. Moat CrossingOne of you is the harlot, Joy, carousing your way across my moat while seducing your teammate, Enkidu, who must put on that hairy vest and shorts. On Cristela's signal, Joy must swim to the first platform and beckon Enkidu to join her for some fine wine. Enkidu must swim out and help her empty both jugs. Then Joy may advance to the second platform for a second round. Describe the label on the wine jug to Enkidu so he can find its match floating in the moat. Empty those two jugs, then manscape Enkidu by stripping off his hairy vest and shorts before he takes a nap on your bed. While napping, push Enkidu to shore, exit the moat and empty the final two jugs of wine. Finally, dress Enkidu in that fine tunic, completing his gentrification before you may run over and hit your gong. The first three teams to hit their gong continue on their quest. The last team is out.
Steps of KnowledgeEnkidu arrives in Uruk to find Gilgamesh about to enter another bride's bed chamber. He blocks the king, prompting an epic fight that goes on for hours. The lead trades back and forth when suddenly Gilgamesh pins Enkidu, who concedes and prepares to die. Instead of killing Enkidu on the spot, the two equals become best friends, determined to find an epic bro-venture worthy of their stature. Enkidu tells of an evil demon named Humbaba, the guardian of the Cedar forest, so fierce that any mortal will surely die trying to kill it. But kill Humbaba and their reputation lives forever. They track down the demon but it is even more powerful than Gilgamesh imagined. So he calls on the Sun God, Shamash, for help. Shamash sends 13 giant storms to weaken Humbaba just enough for Enkidu to sever its head. As proof of their epic-ness, they bring the head back to Uruk on a spike. This brutal act of manliness has the desired effect: their reputation soars and the goddess of love, Ishtar, is kind of turned on. She proposes marriage to Gilgamesh but he shuns her advances in favor of staying with his brother in combat, Enkidu. Embarrassed, Ishtar sends the bull of heaven to kill them both but instead they slay the bull, removing its entrails which they fling at Ishtar. So, she runs to her daddy, the sky god, Anu. "One of them must die for this." The gods huddle and choose. Enkidu soon falls ill and dies a tortured death. Despondent that his brother is gone, Gilgamesh ponders the meaning of life and immortality then sets out on a new quest to find a reason for living.
Temple GamesAttack on Ishtar (Head-to-Head)[]So, Gilgamesh and Enkidu did fling bull entrails on the goddess Ishtar. In this game, you too shall rain entrails on Ishtar. When Cristela gives the signal, crawl under the brush and over the mountain to the Bowl of Heaven and its entrails. Use that slinging device to launch the entrails at Ishtar, swapping places after each shot. Get three entrails wrapped around Ishtar and you may run over and hit your gong. The first team to hit their gong wins! Waking Gilgamesh (Time Trial)[]After Enkidu's death, everything in Uruk reminds Gilgamesh of his own mortality. He sets out alone to find Utnapishtim, the only human ever made immortal by the gods, to discover the secret to eternal life. Utnapishtim is willing to reveal the secret if Gilgamesh can pass one simple test: "You think you should stay alive forever? Surely you can stay awake for a week." Gilgamesh fails the test falling asleep the very first night but Utnapishtim's wife takes pity on him and convinces her husband to tell Gilgamesh of the lycium flower that grows on the bottom of the cosmic sea. Too deep to swim to. "Eat the lycium and the vitality of your youth will return." Obsessed, Gilgamesh goes to the cosmic sea, ties boulders to his feet, sinks to the bottom and grabs the lycium. In this game, you must wake the sleeping Gilgamesh and take him to the lycium flower. When Cristela gives the signal, one of you climb the mountain to fill a bucket with water. Carefully slide down and transfer as much of the water as you can to your teammate, who must catch it in another bucket and fling it in Gilgamesh's face screaming, "Wake up"! Do that thrice. When water doesn't work. Search the forest to find five snakes to bite him. When snakes fail, take Gilgamesh to the cosmic sea and assemble the lycium of immortality atop its stem. Once the flower is complete, you may hit your gong to stop the clock. The team that hits their gong the fastest wins.
The End of the StoryRather than eat the lycium flower right away, assuring his immortality, Gilgamesh decides to take it back to Uruk to share with the elders of the city. Before he enters Uruk, he stops to rest when a giant snake pops up and eats the flower. Gilgamesh grabs the snake by the throat but it sheds its skin and slithers away, transforming into a young snake again, proving that the flower worked. Gilgamesh returns, empty-handed and very mortal, but with fresh eyes. He sees the magnificence of what he has built and is resigned to know that his city and these stories of his epic adventures are the closest thing to immortality he will ever achieve. Temple RunFrontrunner Jen tried both left doors in the Crystal Cenote only to find them locked. She entered the Royal Rage Room where she met her first Temple Guard who took her pendant. She found the three jade stones and unlocked the Room of the Beloved where she was taken out by the second Temple Guard. Jordann went in next and quickly solved the Room of the Beloved to unlock the Spider's Lair. In the Pit of Despair, she found the door to the Queen's Armory locked so she jumped into the Pit and entered the Dark Forest, passing Kirk Fogg along the way. She plowed through the wall and climbed the Ladder of Death to the Queen's Armory where she grabbed the lycium. She quickly escaped the Temple to win the $25,000 king's ransom.
