The Treasure Map of Jean Lafitte is the nineteenth episode of Legends of the Hidden Temple. It was the eighteenth episode to have production completed and the third to air. Moat CrossingOne player from each team sat on a floating ring. When Kirk said "go", that player pulled himself across the Moat as quickly as possible using an attached rope. Once across, he stepped off, grabbed the ring, and threw it back to his partner who proceeded to jump on and pull himself across. As soon as the second teammate stepped onto the deck, it was his job to run over and hit the gong.
Steps of KnowledgeThe most notorious New Orleans smuggler and gentleman pirate was Jean Lafitte. He was so wealthy that he built his own secret smugglers colony on the islands south of New Orleans. From there, he raided foreign ships in the Gulf of Mexico. When he attacked some United States ships, the government sent in troops to capture him. He and his crew burned his colony and sailed away. Before he escaped, he buried his fabled treasure in the quicksand along the Swanee River and gave the map to a cabin boy, swearing him to secrecy and threatening him with the pirate's curse if he ever revealed the location of the treasure. 60 years later, the cabin boy, now an old man, came with another man and began digging secretly in the swamps along the Swanee. Some say malaria, some say the pirate's curse killed the old man's helper and left the old man a muttering old crazy. But legend has it that the map disappeared until now.
Temple GamesThe Blue Barracudas are 11-year-olds Teri-Kay and Aaron. The Red Jaguars are 11-year-old Jacqueline and 13-year-old Rex. Cannonball Drop (Water Ramp)[]Before them were loading ramps. At the base of each loading ramp were cannonballs. Each team member sat with their backs to their cannonballs, and when Kirk gave the signal, they pushed their cannonballs up to the top of their ramps. Of course, their waters flowed, so it was going to be tricky. And they slid back down, grabbed the next cannonballs, stuck them behind them, and then pushed it up again. The player with the most cannonballs at the top of their ramps, or the team that was furthest along in 60 seconds won. At first, the two were fairly even, but with forty-five seconds on the clock, Aaron lost his grip about two-thirds of the way up the ramp and slid all the way down, having to start over. He never managed to catch up, so Rex planted the only cannonball for either team at the top with fourteen seconds left and earned the first half Pendant of Life for the Red Jaguars. Pirate's Gold (Peanut Shaft)[]In 1941, drillers near Lafitte's hideout struck a footlocker and came up with traces of gold. Divers went down to get it, but as they were pulling it up, the cable around the chest snapped, and the chest was lost in quicksand. We hoped the players had a little better luck. When Kirk gave then signal, each player dug into their quicksands until they found pieces of treasure. Then they climbed back up to their tops and dumped their treasures into their bins. Then they climbed back down and dug again. The player with the most treasure in their bins at the end of sixty seconds won. Neither player was terribly good, but Teri-Kay had an easier time climbing the narrow walls of the shaft from the start. When time expired, she managed to get two pieces of treasure up to the top, while Jacqueline only managed to bring one piece of treasure out of the shaft. So, Teri-Kay won the game for the Blue Barracudas, and the score after two games was a tie, at a half pendant per team. Pass the Gold (Bungee Soap Line)[]Being a pirate is a lot of work. When Kirk gave the signal, one player from each team grabbed pieces of treasure, stuck them to their helmets, and pulled themselves to their partners at their centers When they got there, their partner's jobs were to grab their treasures, slide back to their sides, and dump their treasures into their chests. Then they went back grabbed another piece of treasure, and did it again. The team that loads the most pieces of treasure into their chest in sixty seconds won. At the end of the game, both teams had retrieved five golden artifacts, which kept the score at a tie, this time for 1½ pendants apiece. Tiebreaker[]Kirk: "Which of these was a sword used by pirates: a windless, a cutlass or a necklace?" Rex rang in and incorrectly answered "A windless?" sending the Blue Barracudas to Olmec's Temple. The correct answer was a cutlass.
Temple RunAaron went into the temple first, moving at a great pace. Starting off by heading up into The Room of the Three Gargoyles, Aaron was able to unlock the door leading down to The Troubled Bridge after only pressing on one tongue. However, despite the fact that the door leading to the staircase had opened, the door at the end of the staircase remained locked! This confused Aaron, so he tried to pry open the door, but when that didn't work, he went back and pressed the other tongues, but to no avail. With no other choice, Aaron climbs down into The Cave of Sighs and enters The Wheel Room using the upper crawl tube. After lifting the stone slab, Aaron proceeds into The Room of Harmonic Convergence, but upon trying the first combination of panels, the first temple guard appeared from the doors with 2:02 left on the clock. After giving up his Pendant of Life, Aaron continues to work through the different combinations, with the final combination landing a success for him and he proceeds to make his way up into The Heart Room. But just as Aaron opened up the door leading to The Treasure Room, the second temple guard captured him with 1:34 left on the clock, and was taken out of the temple.
While both of them did a good job clearing out some of the rooms in the temple, it was unfortunate that they ran into a production error with the door that led to The Troubled Bridge. Had this not occurred, there may have been a good chance they would have cleared more rooms or even managing to get to the treasure map on time.
